The XH-M401 DC-DC Buck Converter Module is a high-performance, high-power step-down voltage regulator designed for applications requiring high efficiency and substantial current delivery. Built around the robust XL4016E1 switching regulator chip, this module can convert a higher input voltage down to a lower, stable output voltage with up to 94% efficiency.
This regulator is an ideal solution for DIY power supplies, battery-operated equipment, high-power LED drivers, and industrial control systems. It features an integrated large-scale heatsink and a high-quality multi-turn potentiometer with a built-in switch, allowing for precise voltage control and easy power management in a single compact board.
Key Features
  • High Power Delivery: Capable of providing up to 8A of peak output current (5A recommended for continuous use), supporting loads up to 250W.
  • Precision XL4016E1 Core: Utilizes high-frequency switching technology to ensure stable voltage regulation with minimal ripple.
  • Integrated On/Off Switch: The voltage adjustment knob includes a built-in switch; turning the knob fully counter-clockwise clicks the unit off.
  • Excellent Thermal Management: Equipped with dual oversized aluminum heatsinks to maintain cool operation during high-current tasks.
  • Safety Protections: Features built-in over-current protection, over-temperature protection, and short-circuit protection for both the module and connected devices.
  • Premium Components: Uses high-frequency low-resistance electrolytic capacitors and a high-inductance copper coil to ensure clean power output.
Usage Guidelines
  1. Input/Output Wiring: Connect the input DC voltage (4V-40V) to the IN+ and IN- terminals. Connect the load to the OUT+ and OUT- terminals.
  2. Voltage Adjustment: Rotate the potentiometer knob. Clockwise increases voltage; counter-clockwise decreases voltage.
  3. The “Buck” Requirement: This is a step-down (Buck) converter. The input voltage must be at least 1.5V to 2V higher than the desired output voltage.
  4. Heat Dissipation: If the continuous operating current exceeds 5A or the output power exceeds 100W, we recommend adding a small cooling fan to prevent thermal shutdown.
  5. Initial Setup: Always measure the output voltage with a multimeter before connecting sensitive electronics to ensure the level is correct
Q: Can this module increase (Boost) voltage?

No. This is a Buck (Step-Down) converter only. It can only output a voltage lower than the input voltage

Q: Is it safe to run this at 8A continuously?

While the chip is rated for 8A, we recommend a continuous load of 5A or less for passive cooling. If you must run at 8A for long periods, active fan cooling is mandatory to prevent the thermal protection from kicking in

Q: Can I use this to charge a battery?

Yes, but it is recommended to add a diode on the output to prevent “backflow” from the battery to the module when the power is off. Please note this module regulates voltage, not constant current

Q: Why is my output voltage exactly the same as my input voltage?

This usually happens if the input voltage is lower than the target output. Ensure your input is at least 2V higher than what you want to output. Also, ensure the potentiometer has been turned several times if it is in its default factory position.

Q: Is this suitable for business and industrial integration?

Absolutely. Business purchasers frequently use the XH-M401 for powering PLC components, industrial LED arrays, and communication equipment due to its high efficiency and the convenience of the integrated power switch knob.

Q: Does it have reverse polarity protection?

The XL4016 has internal protections, but the board itself does not have a dedicated reverse polarity diode. Always double-check your positive and negative connections before applying power
