Description
The ANT-801S is a compact, highly sensitive mechanical vibration sensor used for motion detection, shock sensing, and tilt detection in security systems, IoT devices, and industrial monitoring. Unlike piezoelectric or MEMS accelerometers, the ANT-801S is a passive mechanical switch: its internal structure contains conductive balls that bridge contacts under gravity when stationary, and momentarily separate when subjected to vibration or tilt . This makes it extremely simple to interface—no power supply is required for the sensor itself, only a pull-up or pull-down resistor and a microcontroller GPIO.
The sensor is omnidirectional—it detects vibration regardless of direction, without a defined sensing axis . It is commonly used in anti-theft alarms, tamper detection, and wake-up circuits where a simple “vibration happened” signal is sufficient. Because the raw output is a bouncing mechanical contact, signal conditioning is strongly recommended for reliable digital reading. A typical conditioning circuit uses a Schmitt trigger (such as CD4093) with RC filtering to debounce the signal and produce a clean square wave .
Critical limitation: The ANT-801S detects the presence of vibration, not its magnitude, frequency, or direction. It is not an accelerometer and cannot measure vibration quantitatively.
Features
-
Passive Mechanical Switch Design: No power required for the sensing element; operates solely through mechanical contact closure during vibration .
-
Omnidirectional Detection: Responds to vibration and shock from any direction without a defined axis .
-
High Sensitivity: Detects micro-shocks and light vibrations, suitable for tamper detection and motion-triggered wake-up .
-
Simple Two-Terminal Interface: Connects directly to a microcontroller GPIO with a pull-up resistor; minimal external components required.
-
Dual Function (Tilt + Vibration): The internal ball structure also responds to sustained tilt, making it usable for orientation detection as a secondary function .
-
Compact Form Factor: Small cylindrical package suitable for space-constrained installations.
-
Low Cost: Inexpensive compared to MEMS accelerometers, ideal for cost-sensitive and high-volume applications.
