Description
The YF-S201C is a transparent-body variant of the widely used YF-S201 Hall-effect water flow sensor, designed for inline measurement of liquid flow rate and total volume in Arduino, ESP32, and other microcontroller projects. The transparent housing allows visual confirmation of impeller rotation and helps diagnose air pockets or blockages in the line. It consists of a plastic valve body with a G1/2″ (DN15) threaded connection containing a magnetic pinwheel impeller and a Hall-effect sensor. As liquid flows through the sensor, the impeller rotates, and the Hall sensor detects the magnet’s rotation, outputting a digital pulse train on the signal wire . The pulse frequency is proportional to flow rate, allowing the microcontroller to calculate both instantaneous flow (L/min) and cumulative volume (liters).
The sensor operates from 3.5V to 18V DC (5V typical) with a maximum current draw of 15mA and outputs a pulse signal with high level between 0.5V and 4.5V (at 5V supply) . The flow range is 1–25 L/min for the YF-S201C, slightly narrower than the standard YF-S201’s 1–30 L/min . Accuracy is specified at ±3% by some suppliers, though the broader YF-S201 family is often listed at ±10% . The body is made of plastic (nylon/glass fiber) with a magnetic impeller and Hall sensor, suitable for water and hot water applications up to 80°C (some sources list 120°C for the medium) .
Critical limitations: The transparent body is still a low-cost, non-certified sensor intended for educational, hobbyist, and light commercial use. The pulse characteristic varies with flow rate, fluid pressure, and sensor orientation, and calibration against a known volume is recommended for better than ±10% precision . For revenue-grade metering or safety-critical systems, a certified flow meter should be used instead.
