Description
The GP2Y1014AU series is an optical PM2.5 dust sensor from SHARP. It uses an infrared emitting diode and a phototransistor arranged diagonally, detecting the intensity of infrared light reflected by airborne particles to estimate dust concentration. A air-flow hole is located in the center of the sensor; when dust-laden air passes through the detection area, particles scatter the infrared light toward the phototransistor, and the output voltage changes accordingly. Within a certain range, this voltage is linearly related to dust concentration. Compared with the earlier GP2Y1010AU0F, this model offers improved accuracy (manufacturer-specified ±15%) while maintaining pin compatibility.
The sensor provides an analog voltage output with a sensitivity of 0.5V per 0.1 mg/m³ and must be used with a microcontroller ADC. Typical applications include air purifiers, ventilation/air-conditioning systems, smart home air quality monitoring, and DIY environmental detection projects. Note that the sensor must be operated with pulsed drive: the LED pin must be triggered with a pulse at approximately 10ms intervals, with a sampling window of 280µs after the LED turns on, rather than continuous power. This design extends LED life and ensures reading accuracy. Power consumption is low (20mA maximum, 11mA typical), and the operating temperature range is -10°C to +65°C, making it suitable for indoor environmental monitoring.
Features
-
Optical Scattering Detection Principle: IR LED and phototransistor arranged diagonally, effectively detecting particles larger than 0.8µm, particularly sensitive to fine particles such as cigarette smoke.
-
Improved Accuracy Over Previous Generation: Manufacturer-specified accuracy of ±15%, sensitivity of 0.5V per 0.1 mg/m³, with a linear relationship between output voltage and concentration over the 0–0.5 mg/m³ range.
-
Low Power Design: Maximum current 20mA, typical operating current 11mA, suitable for embedded and portable applications.
-
Pulsed Drive Mode: The LED pin must be pulse-triggered via GPIO rather than continuously powered; a 150Ω current-limiting resistor and 220µF capacitor ensure stable timing.
-
Compact Package: Dimensions approximately 46×30×17.6mm, weight approximately 15g, easy to integrate into various device enclosures.
-
Wide Supply Voltage: Some modules support 2.5V–5.5V supply, with an internal boost circuit making the ADC output independent of supply voltage (confirm specific module design).
