Description

The SHT40 Digital Temperature and Humidity Sensor Module is a compact, high-precision breakout board built around Sensirion’s fourth-generation SHT40 sensor. It provides fully calibrated, linearized, and temperature-compensated digital output over a standard I2C interface, making it an ideal choice for battery-powered IoT nodes, environmental monitoring, and smart home applications where low power and high accuracy are both essential.

At the heart of the module is the SHT40 sensor, which delivers ±1.8% RH typical humidity accuracy and ±0.2°C typical temperature accuracy . The measurement range covers 0–100% RH and -40°C to +125°C, with fast response times of 4 seconds (humidity) and 2 seconds (temperature) . The sensor is factory-calibrated, eliminating the need for external trimming.

The SHT40 is designed for ultra-low power consumption, drawing an average supply current of just 0.4µA . The chip operates from 1.08V to 3.6V, making it perfect for single-cell battery applications . Most breakout boards accept 3.3V to 5V supplies for convenience, with onboard regulation . The I2C interface supports communication speeds up to 1MHz, and the module includes onboard pull-up resistors for stable operation.

A key feature of the SHT40 is its integrated variable power heater, which can be activated to remove condensation or prevent creep effects in high-humidity environments . The default I2C address is 0x44 for the SHT40-AD1B variant, with 0x45 available for the SHT40-BD1B variant .

Important Note: The SHT40 chip operates at 1.08–3.6V logic. Verify your specific breakout board’s voltage rating—some include onboard regulation for 5V compatibility, while others are 3.3V-only. The sensor is not waterproof and should be kept dry. The SHT40 has a single-shot measurement mode only (no periodic mode like the SHT3x series) .

Whether you are building a battery-powered weather station, a wireless sensor node, or a precision HVAC controller, the SHT40 module provides the accuracy, low power, and reliability you need.
