Product Description
The TEC1-12705 is a high-performance thermoelectric cooler (TEC) engineered for applications that require a robust balance of cooling capacity and electrical efficiency. Utilizing the Peltier effect, this solid-state semiconductor device creates a powerful temperature differential between its two ceramic plates. With a 5-Ampere current rating, the 12705 model is a versatile “mid-to-high” range solution, offering significant heat-pumping capability without the extreme power requirements of 6A+ modules.
Constructed with 127 internal semiconductor couples made of high-purity bismuth telluride, the TEC1-12705 provides silent, vibration-free temperature control. Because it contains no moving parts or circulating refrigerants, it is exceptionally reliable for medical devices, laboratory instruments, and precision electronic cooling where a long, maintenance-free lifespan is mandatory.
Key Features
  • High-Efficiency Heat Pumping: Capable of moving up to 45W–50W of heat energy, making it suitable for small-scale refrigeration.
  • Solid-State Reliability: No moving parts or mechanical wear, ensuring silent operation and zero acoustic noise.
  • Precision Temperature Stability: Enables sub-degree thermal management when paired with a PWM controller or PID system.
  • Slim & Compact Profile: At only 3.8mm thick, it integrates easily into tight enclosures and low-profile hardware layouts.
  • Instant Thermal Reversibility: Change the direction of heat flow instantly by simply reversing the DC input polarity.
  • Environmentally Friendly: Fully RoHS compliant and free of CFCs or other ozone-depleting refrigerants.
Usage & Applications
  • Laboratory Hardware: Precision cooling for high-performance CCD sensors, laser diodes, and infrared cameras.
  • Medical Technology: Temperature-controlled storage for sensitive vaccines, insulin, and laboratory reagents in portable kits.
  • Industrial Instruments: Thermal management for high-speed fiber optic transceivers and power-dense circuitry.
  • Consumer Cooling: Core component for premium wine chillers, cosmetic refrigerators, and desktop water dispensers.
  • Science & Education: Ideal for building cloud chambers or demonstrating thermoelectric principles in STEM labs.
Q: Do I need a heatsink to use this module?
Yes, absolutely. A Peltier module must have a high-efficiency heatsink and fan attached to the hot side before power is applied. Operating the device for even a few seconds without heat dissipation will cause the module to overheat and fail permanently.
Q: How do I identify the cold side of the module?

Generally, the side with the printed model number (TEC1-12705) is the cold side, and the blank side is the hot side. To verify, apply power for 1 second; one side will begin to chill immediately.

Q: Is it necessary to use thermal paste?

Yes. To ensure proper heat transfer, you must apply a thin, even layer of high-quality thermal grease (TIM) between the ceramic plates of the TEC and the heatsinks on both sides.

Q: Can I run this directly from a 12V DC power supply?
Yes, it is optimized for 12V systems. While its maximum voltage is 15.4V, running it at 12V provides the best balance of cooling performance and energy efficiency.
Q: Can I use this module for heating?

Yes. By reversing the red and black wires, the heat flow reverses. The side that was cold will become the heating side.
