The BBC micro:bit V2 (Compatible/Copy Version) is the high-performance successor to the original micro:bit, offering a more powerful processor and integrated audio capabilities. This “Copy Version” is a cost-effective, neutral-manufactured alternative that maintains full hardware and software parity with the official V2 specification, making it ideal for budget-conscious educational institutions and industrial IoT prototyping.
Long Product Description
The BBC micro:bit V2 (Copy Version) is a significant leap forward in portable computing. Powered by the Nordic nRF52833 processor, it offers double the flash memory and eight times the RAM of the previous V1.5 models. This version is specifically designed to handle more complex tasks such as Machine Learning (AI), advanced data logging, and real-time audio processing.
Unlike its predecessors, the V2 comes standard with a built-in MEMS microphone and a speaker, allowing students and engineers to create voice-activated projects or musical instruments without external hardware. It also features a touch-sensitive logo, a dedicated power indicator, and a “Power Off” mode that allows the board to remain connected to batteries for long periods without draining them. For business and educational procurement, this board offers the most modern feature set at a competitive price point, ensuring longevity in any curriculum or development roadmap.
Key Features
  • Enhanced Processing Power: Features the 64MHz ARM Cortex-M4 with FPU, capable of running complex algorithms and basic AI models.
  • Integrated Audio: Onboard microphone for sound sensing and a built-in speaker for audio playback (beeps, melodies, and speech).
  • Touch Sensing: The gold micro:bit logo on the front now functions as a capacitive touch sensor.
  • Power Management: Includes a dedicated sleep/off mode to conserve battery life; wake the board with a single press of the reset button.
  • Full Software Parity: Works perfectly with Microsoft MakeCodeMicroPython, and Scratch using the V2 device targets.
  • Increased Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0 support for faster, long-range wireless communication with mobile devices and other micro:bits
Usage Instructions
  1. Initial Setup: Connect the board to your PC via a Micro-USB cable. A drive named “MICROBIT” will appear.
  2. Coding: Use the micro:bit MakeCode editor and ensure you select the V2 features if using the microphone or speaker.
  3. Deployment: Click “Download” to save the .hex file. Drag and drop this file onto the “MICROBIT” drive. The status LED on the back will flash rapidly during the transfer.
  4. Audio Projects: To use the speaker, simply use the “Music” blocks in MakeCode. For the microphone, use the “Sound Level” blocks under the “Input” menu.
  5. Power Saving: To turn the board off, hold the Reset/Power button for 5 seconds until the power LED turns off
Q: Is this "Copy Version" 100% compatible with official Micro:bit V2 code?

Yes. It uses the same nRF52833 chipset and internal circuitry layout. Your code from MakeCode or Python will run exactly the same as it would on an “Official” branded board.

Q: Does this version include the speaker and microphone?

Yes. This V2 Copy Version includes all the V2-specific hardware: the MEMS microphone, the speaker, and the touch-sensitive logo

Q: Can I use V1.5 accessories (shields/expansion boards) with the V2?

Most accessories are compatible. However, the V2 edge connector has “notches” to make crocodile clips stay in place better. If an expansion board relies on specific V1 processor timings, it might need a library update, but 99% of hardware is interchangeable

Q: Why should a business or school buy the "Copy Version" over the "Official" version?

The primary benefit is cost-efficiency. For large-scale deployments (e.g., 500+ units for a school district), the savings are substantial. This version is shipped in neutral industrial packaging, which reduces waste and shipping costs for commercial purchasers.

Q: How do I tell if I have a V1 or a V2?

Look at the edge connector (bottom). If it has “notches” (indents) in the gold pads, it is a V2. Additionally, the V2 has a speaker on the back and a gold-colored logo on the front

Q: Can I get bulk pricing for corporate training or distribution?

Yes. We offer tiered pricing for businesses, government agencies, and educational resellers. Please contact our wholesale department for a formal quote
