Product Description
The ISD1820 Voice Recording Module (Blue Edition) is a compact, high-efficiency audio solution designed for capturing and playing back short vocal messages. This module is an “all-in-one” board, featuring an onboard high-sensitivity microphone for recording and a powerful integrated amplifier capable of driving an 8Ω 0.5W speaker directly.
Engineered for reliability, the board utilizes non-volatile flash memory, ensuring that your recorded audio is preserved indefinitely even when the power is removed. Its intuitive interface allows for standalone operation via tactile buttons or automated control through microcontrollers like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and PLC systems. Whether you are adding voice prompts to industrial machinery, creating interactive museum displays, or developing consumer “talking” products, this module offers a professional-grade audio bridge at a cost-effective price point.
Key Features
  • Plug-and-Play Audio: Includes a built-in microphone and a matched 0.5W speaker for immediate use out of the box.
  • Non-Volatile Flash Storage: Recorded messages are stored safely on the chip; no backup battery is required to maintain the recording.
  • Multi-Mode Playback:
    • Edge-Triggered (PLAYE): Plays the full message with a single pulse.
    • Level-Triggered (PLAYL): Plays only while the signal is held HIGH.
    • Looping: Continuous playback mode available via onboard jumper.
  • Microcontroller Compatible: Standard 2.54mm headers allow for easy connection to 3.3V or 5V logic systems.
  • Low Power Consumption: Optimized for battery-operated devices and energy-efficient IoT sensor nodes.
  • Zero-Code Setup: Can be operated entirely via physical buttons without any software programming.
Usage & Applications
  • Industrial Notification: Add clear voice alerts to control panels for error warnings or operational instructions.
  • Interactive Kiosks: Provide audible feedback in retail displays or educational exhibits when a button is pressed.
  • Smart Home Alerts: Integrate with motion or door sensors to play “Welcome Home” or security warning messages.
  • Accessibility Tools: Create custom communication aids for individuals requiring audible speech assistance.
  • Consumer Goods: Ideal for high-end greeting cards, talking plush toys, and personalized electronic gifts.
Q: Does the module lose the recording when I turn off the power?

No. The ISD1820 uses internal flash memory. Once a message is recorded, it stays on the chip until you choose to record over it, regardless of the power status.

Q: Can I change the recording length to more than 10 seconds?

Yes. By changing a single timing resistor (R6) on the board, you can increase the recording time up to 20 seconds. Please note that increasing the duration will slightly decrease the audio sampling quality.

Q: Can I trigger the recording via an Arduino?

Absolutely. By sending a HIGH signal to the REC pin from your microcontroller, you can initiate a recording session remotely, provided an audio source is at the microphone.

Q: How many times can I re-record a message?

The chip is rated for approximately 100,000 record cycles, making it suitable for applications where the message needs to be updated frequently.

Q: Is the included speaker loud enough for a large room?

The 0.5W speaker is perfect for close-range alerts and handheld devices. For broadcasting in large or noisy environments, we recommend connecting the audio output to an external amplifier module.
