Product Description
The TEC1-12708 is a high-capacity thermoelectric cooler (TEC) engineered for demanding industrial and scientific applications that require rapid heat pumping in a compact footprint. Utilizing the Peltier effect, this high-performance solid-state device creates a powerful temperature differential between its two ceramic plates. With an 8-Ampere current rating, the 12708 model is designed for high-density thermal loads, offering significantly more cooling power than standard consumer-grade modules.
Constructed with 127 internal semiconductor couples made of high-purity bismuth telluride, the TEC1-12708 provides silent, vibration-free temperature control. Because it contains no moving parts or circulating refrigerants, it is exceptionally reliable for medical devices, laboratory instruments, and high-performance electronic cooling where a long, maintenance-free lifespan is mandatory.
Key Features
  • Maximum Heat Pumping: Capable of moving up to 75W–85W of heat energy, making it suitable for active CPU/GPU chilling and large-scale portable refrigeration.
  • Solid-State Reliability: No moving parts or mechanical wear, ensuring silent operation and zero acoustic noise—ideal for lab and medical environments.
  • Precision Thermal Management: Enables sub-degree temperature stability when paired with a PWM controller or PID system.
  • Industrial Build Quality: Reinforced ceramic plates designed to withstand repeated high-wattage thermal cycling in professional environments.
  • Instant Thermal Reversibility: Change the direction of heat flow instantly by simply reversing the DC input polarity.
  • Environmentally Friendly: Fully RoHS compliant and free of CFCs or other ozone-depleting refrigerants.
Usage & Applications
  • High-Density Electronics: Active cooling for overclocked processors, high-speed networking ASICs, and power-dense server components.
  • Medical Technology: Temperature-controlled transport for large-volume vaccine batches and biological reagents.
  • Scientific Instrumentation: Cooling high-resolution CCD cameras, laser diodes, and infrared sensors in spectroscopy.
  • Industrial Systems: Thermal management for high-power laser systems and industrial control cabinets.
  • Commercial Chillers: Core component for high-performance medical-grade portable refrigerators and specialized wine coolers.
Q: Do I need a special heatsink for the 8A model?

Yes. Because the 12708 draws 8A, it generates substantial heat on the “hot side.” You must use a high-performance heatsink (ideally liquid-cooled or with heat pipes) to prevent the module from failing due to its own heat.

Q: Can I run this module at a lower current?

Yes. Thermoelectric modules are current-driven. If you provide less than 8A, the module will pump less heat, which often increases its electrical efficiency and reduces the stress on your hot-side heatsink.

Q: Which side of the module is the cold side?

Typically, the side with the printed model number (TEC1-12708) is the cold side. If you apply power for 1 second, the cold side will chill instantly while the other side becomes very hot

Q: Is thermal paste required on both sides?

Yes. To ensure proper heat transfer, you must apply a thin, even layer of high-quality thermal grease (TIM) between both ceramic plates and their respective contact surfaces.

Q: Can I use this for heating applications?

Absolutely. By reversing the polarity of the red and black wires, the heat flow is reversed. This makes it an excellent component for incubation or climate-control systems
